A large number of football fans were on hand at Beechwood Stadium Tuesday morning, when the Portsmouth Spartans staged a workout. The Spartans stopped in Ironton on the first of their scheduled tri-state tours.

Glenn Presnell, Tank star last year, who will play with Portsmouth, this season, Tex Mitchell, Gene Alford and Red Wager, also of the Tanks last year, worked out with the Spartans.

Vaughn Talbot, secretary of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, introduced the members of the Spartan team to the crowd, and they got a big hand.

Portsmouth opens the season at Universal Stadium in Portsmouth, on Sunday, September 13, playing Brooklyn.
